Getting started
What does drone mapping cost?
Drone mapping is priced per project, driven by site size, the deliverables you need, how often we fly, and travel to your location. A single orthomosaic of a compact site is scoped very differently than recurring LiDAR scans of a long corridor, so we quote each job rather than publish flat rates. Send the basics through our quote form and we'll come back with a firm number.
Do I need LiDAR or photogrammetry?
Photogrammetry covers most open construction sites; LiDAR earns its place when you need ground elevations under vegetation or fine structural detail. The right choice depends on surface cover, the tolerances your workflow requires, and which deliverables you'll actually use. Can drone mapping replace a traditional land survey?
No. skyZenith provides mapping and scanning data that supports survey and engineering workflows — boundary determinations, certifications, and legal descriptions remain the work of your licensed surveyor. Most teams hand our engineering-ready files directly to their surveyor or civil engineer, who builds on them.

Accuracy & deliverables
How accurate is drone mapping?
Accuracy in drone mapping comes down to two things: how the aircraft is positioned and whether ground control is used. We fly RTK/PPK-positioned aircraft, which correct satellite positioning error in real time or in post-processing, and we add ground control points when the project calls for an independent check. Across the industry, that combination supports the tolerances most construction and engineering workflows require. Tell us your project's tolerance and we'll tell you plainly whether drone data meets it.
What file formats do you deliver?
We deliver GeoTIFF orthomosaics, DSM and DTM surfaces, classified LAS/LAZ point clouds, contours in DXF or SHP, radiometric thermal reports, and progress reports. Files arrive engineering-ready, in your project's coordinate system. See drone mapping & orthomosaics for what each deliverable contains, and ask if you need a format that isn't listed.
Will your files work in our CAD and GIS software?
Yes. GeoTIFF, DXF, SHP, and LAS/LAZ are open standards that load into any mainstream CAD, GIS, or point cloud package without conversion. We also deliver in the coordinate system your project runs on, so files land where they should the first time you open them.
Who owns the data?
You do. Our project scopes spell out that the imagery, point clouds, and processed files from your project are yours, and we don't share, resell, or publish client data. If you want the raw flight data alongside the finished deliverables, just ask — it's yours too.
Compliance & safety
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Every flight is flown by an FAA-certificated Part 107 remote pilot, and skyZenith Drones is fully insured. We can provide certificates and documentation before anyone is on your site — most general contractors require them, and we're set up for that.
Can you fly near airports or in controlled airspace?
Yes, with FAA authorization — and securing it is our job, not yours. Under Part 107, flights in controlled airspace require approval: at most airports that comes through LAANC, often in near real time, while more complex airspace needs a written authorization filed in advance. We review airspace during flight planning on every project, so there are no surprises on flight day.
How does weather affect drone flights?
Wind, rain, and low cloud can ground a flight or degrade data quality, so we monitor forecasts and reschedule rather than deliver a compromised dataset. Gulf South weather moves fast, and we build that reality into scheduling and keep you informed if a window shifts. Working with us
Where do you fly?
We serve Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi — the Gulf South. skyZenith operates as a service-area business, which means we come to your site; there's no storefront to visit. For the right project, we'll travel beyond the Gulf South — ask when you request a quote.
What do you need from us to fly our site?
Not much: a site contact, access or gate instructions, and a heads-up on anything unusual — active crane picks, overhead work, or areas to avoid. We handle flight planning, airspace, and coordination with your site's safety rules. Flights are planned to stay clear of active work areas and out of your crew's way.
How do recurring progress flights work?
We fly your site on a fixed cadence using the same flight plan every visit, so each dataset overlays the last and progress is measurable, not anecdotal. After each flight you get current orthomosaics, surfaces, and a progress report you can put in front of owners and lenders.
